Multi-Modal Statement: My paper includes a mix of linguistic, visual, gestural and spacial elements. In the beginning and end of my paper, I am including a header and a footer with the colors of Instagram. I want to start and wrap up my piece with a cohesive part with the theme of Instagram. It highlights the core focus of my written text. Additionally, I am making the beginning of the title a curly font, similar to that of Instagram to continue with this theme. I chose not to make the title entirely one font because I wanted to emphasize the importance of Instagram Envy. I made just the I am including various images throughout my paper as well. First off, I will include one of the “Instagram vs Reality” memes that I reference within my text that is gestural. In my writing, people who have seen theses memes will understand my point, however by including an image of this meme will drastically increase the understanding of my argument. Additionally, in the meme, there are two vary different facial expressions that can reciprocate feelings many readers can relate too. I am going to add an image of a balance after mentioning Yo-Yo Ma’s and Lehrer’s quotes about the equilibrium of science and art. My main argument is the need for a balance of both art and science. Including this image will just highlight its significance of my paper. The final picture that I will add is an image of Kiel James Patrick’s Instagram feed. No words can accurately describe the high quality of his Instagram. No metaphor or adjectives can do justice to the adorable pictures of his family, and stunning images of his home. Including an image showing his feed is the only way to communicate the amount of envy I sometimes have after viewing one of his posts. I will have two pull quotes, “Looking at a piece of artwork, one spectator may see a sad painting on loss, while others may see the trials of life, and yet another individual see hope,” and “only when science and the arts, critical and empathetic reasoning, are linked to the mainstream will we find a sustainable balance in society.” These are central pieces of evidence in my argument and I want to make them stand out. All of my elements combine to exemplify the key aspects to my paper. Social media and art are very visual topics, and in an essay discussing both, including visual elements will only add to the understanding and meaning of my ideas.
