Language is a way of making connections. In school, we use it to write essays, to prove that we have learned a topic, and outside of class at social gatherings and parties, language is used to make new friends, and makes some relationships tighter. There are various forms of language. Verbal and written are the most common, whether it is English, Spanish, or French and are used to communicate ideas between two or more people. With this form of language however, only a portion of the world can understand it. Only those who speak the same language can understand the words that people are using to express their ideas. There is also body language, that is much more universal. Facial expressions and body language are critical forms of communication as well. After all, there is the saying that actions speak louder than words. It is easy to piece words together in a lie, actions and body gestures are much harder to continuously lie about. Someone’s smile and eyes can tell communicate a lot more about emotions than any written or spoken language. No matter the kind of language, like most things, there are some positives but also some negatives about it. Language allows us to support each other, build friendships, and bring about joy. It at the same time, can be misinterpreted, especially when two people to not understand the same language.  In these cases, a wall is formed between two humans by language, and the inability to understand each other, people are divided. All too often, hatred, anger and sadness often result when two people are divided, not matter the reason. Language can then turn ugly, when it is used to tear people down. Currently, this can be seen on social media with cyber bullying. Words are used to hurt others, and it is awful. Language, despite the various benefits and disadvantages has played a huge impact in my life. It has aloud me to build strong relationships with my best friends, and now that I am in college, it has helped me to meet new people. In the future, words and language will help me become successful, get a job, and build a strong network of friends, and hopefully find the love of my life. Language will continue to be a bridge between the ideas and thoughts of different people.
