Unfortunately, compromise and equilibrium is not common in the world today. We are very competitive, wanting to be the best. Many STEM supporters may argue the superiority of their field as a result of inventions and medicine. Those who favor science can point out the life saving vaccines that have been developed. Additionally, almost everyone uses a cell phone, or has rode in a car. These daily inventions are a direct result from STEM, and logical thinking and problem solving. Life would be very different if science and technology had not led to all of these advances. There is no doubt that science is crucial to the development of human society, but this doesn’t mean it is above everything else. With any invention, an out of the box idea was needed, the imagination had to be used. Furthermore, after the hardware of a car or the iPhone is created, an appealing design must be needed for it to sell. The exterior design of the lights and tires of a car combine with how the seats are shaped and constructed are extremely important. Without the design of a car, the engine and technology would have nothing to power. There is a careful balance between science and the arts that is extremely critical. The more productive processes of invention often fluctuate between critical, and creative thinking.

Fantastic. You make some good points. I’m curious if you see any differences between design and art? I don’t mean to imply that there is some objective answer. I just wanted you to think about it.
