Blog 7:

  1. Is your positions statement identifiable with purpose and clear boundaries?
    • At a first glance, I was slightly confused by boundaries, but I think it means to have a focus to the argument, so that my thesis is not all over the place and is easy to understand. My thesis is clear, but I need to work on ensuring that I is not too broad. I tend to struggle with talking about too many things in my pieces.
  2. Have you used synthesis to create new meaning?
    • While I was writing my essay, I was thinking about including the text, and threading my opinion and thesis throughout the text. I never considered bringing about new meaning. I think that contemplating this while editing and writing in the future will help be cultivate a more interesting and original piece that is a lot more than just a report on a topic and articles that were read in class.
  3. Does each paragraph lead naturally one to the other?
    • I have tried to use transition words to make my piece less choppy, however this will force me to think deeper about how I thread different ideas together. Transitions are critical to a piece and if I can work more on this element, it will make the writing process easier, and my essays more enjoyable to read.
  4. Are your words correctly spelled and punctuated?
    • Ever since I can remember I have struggled with spelling and grammar. Spellcheck has become my best friend, however it does not help with most of the grammar and punctuation. I will have to read my paper out loud and go through it with a fine-toothed comb to finalize my paper. While focusing on my spelling and grammar, I hope to learn a little bit about my mistakes and will then make fewer of the same mistakes in the future.

Excellent. I love what you had to say about synthesis. Keep up the good work, and continue to revisit the rubric.
